A 20-foot container holds about 33 cubic meters, with an internal length of approximately 5.9 meters and a payload of up to 25 tons. A 40-foot container is twice as large — 67 cubic meters, with an internal length of about 12 meters and a payload of up to 28 tons.

When to choose 20 feet

This size is ideal when you have limited space on your site. A 20-foot container can easily be placed even in a small warehouse or on a country property. It also excels when transporting heavy cargo — metal products, equipment, bulk materials. The container is lighter and more compact, making it easier to deliver, unload, and move. It is also cheaper, which matters when working with a tight budget. Additionally, 20 feet is the optimal module for converting into a workshop, cabin, or retail space.

When to choose 40 feet

The 40-foot container is the choice for maximum volume. If you need to store or transport large quantities of goods, especially oversized items, it is unbeatable. It is suitable for long cargo — pipes, profiles, lumber — for which the 6 meters of a 20-foot container is often insufficient. When calculated per cubic meter, the 40-foot container is more economical. If the container will remain stationary for years as a warehouse on company premises, it provides maximum usable space with the same foundation and connection costs.

20 feet — compactness, mobility, handling heavy cargo, budget-friendly option. 40 feet — maximum volume, transporting long cargo, savings per cubic meter for stationary placement.

What about High Cube?

Special mention goes to 40’HC (High Cube) containers. They are 30 centimeters taller than standard and are ideal for tall cargo or for conversion into spaces where ceiling height matters.
